Klondike III/Biglow Canyon Interconnection
PPM Energy and Orion Energy LLC have submitted generation interconnection requests to integrate up to 900 megawatts (MW) of power in Sherman County, Ore. generated by the Klondike III Wind Project (300 MW), Biglow Canyon Wind Farm Project (400 MW) and a future 200 MW project for Orion to the Federal Columbia River Transmission System.
Interconnection would require BPA to build a 12-mile, double circuit 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to connect to BPA's existing John Day Substation.
BPA would also need to expand the John Day Substation and build a 230-kV substation next to it.
Schedule
BPA has evaluated the impacts of these interconnections in a combined Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which is now available. On Oct. 25, BPA decided to interconnect these wind projects in a Record of Decision. Comments were accepted on the draft EIS through June 19, 2006. Construction begins in November 2006 and will continue through 2007.
