Completed Wind Projects

Nine Canyon

Image of a wind farm. Developer Energy Northwest built the Nine Canyon wind farm located near Kennewick, Wash., just off “Jump off Joe Ridge” close to BPA's Kennewick radio station. The wind farm was energized in June 2002 and has a current peak output 63 megawatts.

The power generated from the wind farm is collected at the Nine Canyon substation where the voltage is stepped up to 115- kilovolt (kV). The substation connects via a four mile Benton PUD tap line to the 115-kV McNary Badger-Canyon transmission line connecting to the BPA electrical grid.

BPA provided metering, relaying, SCADA, radio communications to Franklin Substation, and tap structures and switches.
