Port Angeles-Juan de Fuca Transmission Project
Sea Breeze Olympic Converter LP has requested interconnection to the Federal Columbia River Transmission System of a 550-MW transmission line under water across the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Vancouver Island, B.C. to Port Angeles, Wash. on the Olympic Peninsula. The line would interconnect at BPA's existing Port Angeles Substation facilities and would require additional facilities.
The Department of Energy (DOE) has prepared a Record of Decision (ROD) for the Port Angeles-Juan de Fuca Transmission Project. DOE’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability has decided to issue a Presidential permit for the international crossing of the cable.
BPA has decided to offer Sea Breeze contract terms to interconnect the proposed cable to the Federal Columbia River Transmission System. BPA is granting interconnection for this project because it is consistent with BPA’s open access transmission tariff and it meets the project objectives of 1) maintaining system reliability, 2) being consistent with BPA’s environmental and social responsibilities, and 3) being cost efficient.
Schedule
Project construction will commence sometime after contract terms are determined and other permits and approvals are granted.
