Olympic Peninsula Reinforcement Project

BPA needs to upgrade about 14.5 miles of an existing 115-kilovolt transmission line between Olympia and Shelton substations on the Olympic Peninsula. This proposed upgrade would improve reliability to the loads we serve on the Peninsula by increasing voltage stability.

Additionally, BPA is proposing to replace a portion of the existing 115-kV line with a double-circuit 230-kV line. The double-circuit 230-kV line would be on metal structures that would be taller than the existing 115-kV wood poles. The new line would connect with an existing BPA 230-kV line that runs between Olympia and Satsop substations.

Schedule

BPA is accepting comments through March 6, 2008 on a preliminary environmental assessment (EA). The EA reviews potential impacts of construction, operation and maintenance of the proposed transmission line. BPA held a public meeting on Jan. 11, 2007 and accepted comments on the proposal through Jan. 24, 2007.
