Planning and Projects

Bonneville Power Administration provides safe, reliable and low-cost transmission service to the Pacific Northwest by operating and maintaining existing transmission facilities, designing and constructing new transmission lines and facilities, and working with the regional stakeholders and customers to plan for future system needs.

Operating a Vital Transmission System

Transmission Services operates and plans for regional and national system needs.

Working with the Community

Transmission Services engages property owners, tribes, local, state and federal agencies, elected officials and community groups early in the design and construction phases.

Protecting the Environment

Transmission Services believes in finding ways to minimize impacts to people, natural resources, and sensitive areas before making the needed system improvements.

Planning for the Future

Transmission Services has built and is planning to build new infrastructure projects that improve transmission system reliability and help meet future power needs. In addition, Transmission Services is evaluating whether non-wires solutions can be employed as viable alternatives to transmission expansion. Non-wires solutions may include pricing strategies, demand reducing strategies, and strategic placement of generators.
